In March 2017 the Frontline Missions Ministry team, led by Jerry and Donalyn Riste will be travelling to the Philippians to minister to the Miskito indians on the banks of the Rio Cocoa River.  Staging near the small village community of Waspam they will travel downriver to the tiny bush village of Kisayla,  Jerry will lead a team of doctors, laborers and missionaries into the jungle to serve these indigenous people, who for a lack of better terms, live way the heck out in the middle of nowhere.

My first interview with Jerry revealed to me some startling information, such as the jungle homes of the people they will be serving, are built on stilts to protect them from snakes. This is in stark contrast to my home, which is situated as far from snakes as humanly possible.  In fact I’m wearing stilts for purposes of even mentioning snakes in this post.

Jerry Riste- Ex military special forces (Green Baret),  Police officer, Sherrifs Deputy, Emergency Medical Technition- President, Frontlines Missionary Services.

To make matters worse, there are spiders, the bad kind, I’m thinking, but I don’t know for sure because I cut the interview short as soon as Jerry used spiders AND snakes in the same sentence.  The team will be be reaching out to the indigenous people of the region.  Indigenous means “only mildly afraid of snakes”.  My personal world outreach plan involves staying here in the snakeless and spiderless regions of the world, possibly surrounding myself with some spider and snake pecking chickens,  providing moral support for Jerry and Donalyn and their team of missionaries and doctors as they serve the physical and spiritual needs of the Miskito Indians on the banks of the Rio Cocoa. They don’t call themselves Frontline Missions Ministries for nothin’.

Stay tuned for further updates.

I don’t fear man nor beast, but I have a tremendous respect for snakes and women….Pastor Duane Sherrif
